Veteran’s Day Activities And How To Celebrate Safely

Home By Geneva >>Veteran’s Day Activities And How To Celebrate Safely

Veterans Day originated as “Armistice Day” on Nov. 11, 1919, the first anniversary of the end of World War I. Congress passed a resolution in 1926 for an annual observance, and Nov. 11 became a national holiday beginning in 1938. Unlike Memorial Day, Veterans Day pays tribute to all American veterans—living or dead—but especially gives thanks to living veterans who served their country honorably during war or peacetime. – History.com

It’s important to do our part to continue to keep others and our families safe.

Here are some ways you can do that:

-Bring masks with you for those establishments that require them

-Spend time outdoors versus indoors

-Check State and Local Guidelines for Covid-19 related policies

-Bring Hand Sanitizer and Disinfecting Wipes

Veteran’s Day Activities:

Spend Time With A Veteran

Most of us know a veteran, it’s important to spend this day celebrating them and their service to our country. If the distance is an issue, try face-timing or giving them a call to let them know you are thinking of them.

Visit a VA Hospital

Conduct a search of local VA hospitals near you. They may be hosting an event to celebrate the day. If not, check for visiting hours. You and your family can bring gifts, or simply spend time with veterans who may be in need of some company. Listen to their stories and be sure to thank them for their service.

Take A Veteran Out

If you have a veteran in the family or are a veteran yourself, many places offer fun gifts or free meals to show their appreciation for serving the country. Here is a list of restaurants where you can enjoy a free meal as a veteran.

Decorate Your Yard

Show your support by decorating the front of your home and yard with patriotic displays of appreciation. Ensure to properly hang a flag, or decorate in red white and blues!

Put together care packages

Many organizations welcome donations or care packages that they can then send out to veterans in need. Look up local veteran associations in your area to see what you can do to help out a veteran.

Attend a local parade or event

Almost all cities host some variation of a Veteran’s Day Parade or get-together to commemorate our service members. Look up what’s happening in your area and celebrate the day with your family and friends!
