Trending Interior Design Ideas – Stage Your Home to SELL

Every year, there are new interior design trends that homebuyers love to see when they look at a home on the market. Most of these things are simple things that you can do yourself to make buyers fall in love with your home and pay more for it, too. Let’s look at some trending interior design ideas for staging a home to sell in 2021.

1. Flooring

Interior Design Ideas- Flooring

Flooring can make or break a home sale sometimes. When buyers walk into a home with old carpet, tile, or vinyl, it can make them think twice about making an offer, and that is because all they see is a to-do list that is racking up before they can enjoy their home. However, you don’t have to redo all of the floors in your house to stage it for sale. There are two trending interior floor designs you should focus on.

Pebble Shower Floor

The pebble shower floor is in right now and is easy to install. Many stores offer individual pebbles laid together on a netted sheet so that they can just be laid down in the pattern of your choice and then grouted over. It upgrades your bathroom with a simple idea and goes with any decor that a new homeowner could want.

Wood Floors

Wood floors have been a trending interior design for a while, and they are here to stay. If you already have wood floors throughout your home, refinishing them can brighten the look and get out any knicks or stains that might be there. Additionally, you’ll have the option of picking a new color. Grey wash and darker stains are well-loved by buyers. If you don’t already have wood floors, laying them in just the main areas of your house can go a long way in staging. Since bedrooms and bathrooms are typically pretty separated, just applying them in the main living spaces like the living room, entranceway, dining, and kitchen will keep a cohesive look.

2. Energy Efficiency

Energy-efficient interior upgrades are another one that has been trending for a while but is here to stay. Everyone wants to lower the utility bills, and honestly, it is pretty easy to do. Some of the upgrades even can change the look of the house to refresh it.

Double Hung Vinyl Windows

Double-hung windows allow you to access both sides of the panel, opening both in and by sliding up. They are the most common windows hung nowadays. Replacing your windows with double-hung vinyl windows can not only improve energy efficiency, but new windows can completely change the look of the interior and exterior of the home.

Low flow fixtures

Updating your fixtures, in general, is a trending interior design trend that we will get to later, but for faucets, you should aim for low-flow models to improve efficiency. Go through all of the bathrooms and the kitchen and replace the sink faucets and any showerheads. It is a minor upgrade that will look great and improve efficiency in the home, which buyers love.

3. Paint and Wallpaper

The correct color palette and pop of color can really up your home’s look.

The surface of the walls is like the cover of a book. We all know we shouldn’t judge a book by its cover, but unfortunately, it sets the tone immediately when you walk into a home for sale. Two of the latest interior design trends are neutral palates and accent walls. So let’s talk about some paint and wallpaper upgrades to stage a home for sale.

Wallpaper

One thing first– all old wallpaper has got to go. No one likes the drab look of wallpaper that hung in grandmother’s house. It may have been the style back then, but it certainly isn’t now. Before we move on, let’s go over how to remove wallpaper.

How to Remove Wallpaper

First, protect your floor and any outlets or switches with tarping and painter’s tape. Then try to take a putty scraper and lift an area of the wallpaper. Likely, it won’t peel off in sheets, but if it does, congratulations, keep peeling!

If it doesn’t, pick up a wallpaper scoring tool and lightly run it over the entire surface area of the wall, keeping in mind to not put too much pressure so you don’t damage the wall itself.

Then mix up a hot water and vinegar solution or a fabric softener and hot water solution. You can find many recipes for these online, but each wallpaper responds differently to various solutions. The most important part is the hot water to activate the adhesive.

Then get to spraying. Spray all over the walls and scrape off the wallpaper. You might notice that some additional adhesive is left behind. Go back in with the hot water solution and the scraper in smaller sections to get any remaining adhesive.

Of course, you’ll want to ensure you use personal protective equipment like eyewear with any DIY project.

4. Office area/Flex space

Flex/Home Office Space are more important now than ever!

Since people have been working from home and staying home more, an interior design trend that has become popular for staging a home is including an office or flex area. Set up an area in your home that could be used as an office, workout, or flex area.

5. Decor

Decor can really bring the entire home together.

Let’s talk about some staging decor. Many people have a hard time staging their homes because they only know their personal style. However, when your home is on the market, you have to think about what most people will like. We have found some crucial elements to include, such as:
